VfL Wolfsburg Fußball GmbH (Bundesliga - national soccer league)

VfL Wolfsburg, - the opening to the Bundesliga.

With its "Wölfe " (wolves), VfL Wolfsburg is now in its sixth season in the "House of Lords" of German soccer, Division 1 of the Bundesliga. Its surprising promotion in 1997 and the 1995 German Cup Final are among the highlights for the team, which is still young, being established on 12th September 1945.

Even die-hard "Wölfe" fans are not aware that the colours still used today actually originated from a makeshift situation. The district youth worker of the time had only ten green jerseys. The shorts were made from privately donated white bed-sheets. And that is how the green and white club colours originated.

Up to 1963, the club gradually worked its way up to escape from district soccer and entered the regional league by winning the Niedersachsen championship in that year. From 1992, VfL established itself with mixed success in Division 2 of the Bundesliga.

In the 1996-7 season came the sensational achievement for the "Wölfe": On 11th June 1997, the VfL players won 5-4 in a dramatic game against FSV Mainz 05; it was a perfect promotion to the First Division, taking many people by surprise.

They have now become established there and, in the 1998-9 season, they even gained a place in the Europa Cup. There followed two other two seasons in which they qualified for the UI Cup.

Those in charge are getting VfL Wolfsburg fit for the future, now that they have achieved certain targets and are setting themselves new ones. On 23rd May 2001, the licensed soccer division separated from the parent club to become VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH. In December 2002 the new stadium, which holds 30,000 spectators, was consecrated. News about the building measures undertaken for the Volkswagen Arena and other information on the building of the stadium can be found on our website on
www.vfl-wolfsburg.de, as well as news about the team, a selection of press reports, team photos, news on individual players and regular pre and post-match reports on all of the "Wölfe"s' games.

The fans can interact by means of features like the forum, the guest- book, pools, on-line opinion polls and the regular celebrity chats with a professional player after the "Wölfe"s' home games.
