Alongside
the
"Auf
Schalke"
Arena,
the
Volkswagen
Arena
is
the
first
new
purpose-built
stadium
in
years.
Appropriately
high
demands
were
made
of
the
planners,
after
Wolfsburg
Town
Council
had
taken
the
decision
to
build
the
new
stadium.
The
total
project
costs
ran
to
nearly
53
million
euros,
provided
equally
by
the
Town
of
Wolfsburg
and
the
operator,
VfL
Wolfsburg
Fußball
GmbH,
an
affiliate
of
Volkswagen
AG,
which
holds
a
90%
stake.
Wolfsburg
AG
appointed
Volkswagen
Immobilien
("VW
Property")
as
main
contractor.
The
company
was
entrusted
with
the
entire
management
of
the
project
and
delivered
a
turnkey
ready
stadium
with
room
for
30,000
spectators.Place for 30.000 spectators The
30,000
places
are
divided
into
fixed
seating
for
22,000
and
standing
room
for
8,000,
which
can
be
converted
into
4,000
seats
for
international
matches.
Compared
to
the
old
stadium,
the
capacity
increased
by
10,000
spectators.
The
renouncement
of a
running
track
gives
spectators
the
chance
to
get
even
closer
to
the
action,
while
at
the
same
time
being
protected
from
any
weather
conditions
by
the
completly
covered
spectators
area.
